30 before 30

Now that I am in my mid twenties..........................LOL I don't even know what to say after that because it's like dang, already? The thought of thirty is scary to me. But twenties have seriously been so good to me. I've been able to travel a bunch, see a lot of new things and have made a lot of great memories....like I will never forget the time I caught a bus from Boston to New York, met up with a friend and drove all the way to West Virginia with only 30.00 in my pocket and a backpack full of clothes all by myself...made it back to school in time the following Monday for volleyball practice. Sure I was completely broke by the time I got back but that has never mattered to me. Or the time I went to Mexico for spring break---or when I rode in a hot air balloon. Adventure and making memories and creating unforgettable experiences for myself has always been my thaaaang. Now that I have kids I can't exactly get up and go like I used to....but that hasn't stopped my adventure seeking ways. So, as sort of a celebration of my twenties (which ends in 4 years) I have created a 30 before 30 list. It's simple. 30 things I want to do by the time I'm 30. Things that I've always wanted to do, that put me outside my comfort zone, and things that will make good stories later on :)
In no particular order...

1. Visit another country (except Mexico, been there done that)
2. Volunteer at a woman's shelter
3. See a glacier
4. Go on a cruise
5. See a Broadway
6. Play Texas Hold'em at a casino (I'm surprisingly pretty good at poker, but a poker table has always been so intimidating to me lol)
7. Kayak or canoe through caves
8. Write a children's book
9. See Too Short, Justin Timberlake, or Chris Brown in concert.
10. Learn to sew
11. Plan and have a wedding (ahh next year! Planning is a ton of work btw esp a destination wedding...like so much work that Vegas is looking good right now lol)
12. Read 10 new books
13. Pay it forward.
14. Be a guest on a tv show (I've already been to Chelsea Lately and So you think you can dance, so I'm thinking Ellen or Price is Right?!)
15. Take a class with Bruce (cooking class, art class, ballroom dance)
16. See the Grand Canyon
17. Do a Color Run
18. Go to a Portland Timbers game (I've always loved watching soccer)
19. Go to a USC football game. FIGHT ON!
20. Donate to Locks of Love or the Pantene Program (somewhere out there someone will love my curly/nappy hair, right?)
21. Watch Kobe Bryant play again
22. Have baby #3 :) :) :)
23. Start a business
24. Visit three cities in the US I've never been to before.
25. Learn a song on the ukulele.
26. Family camping trip!
27. Horseback riding.
28. Put a piece of gum on the gum wall in Seattle.
29. See a show on ice.
30. Last but not least is a personal goal that I'm keeping to myself, sorry :)

Let the games begin! I'll keep you updated :)

In a thousand years.....

Did I ever think that I would even the slightest bit enjoy cooking. Safe to say I've had my fair share of cooking nightmares. LOL And while I claim to be one of those cooks that eyeball measurements I think that I've come to the reality that sadly......I'm not, I shouldn't, and I should never be allowed to eyeball measurements again for as long as I'm living. That my friends is a recipe for disaster. I've had enough recipe disasters that could be a blog on its own. As my dad would say, I could burn water if it was possible. Unfair analysis LOL he's just bitter because he was BBqing one day and had to go in the house for something and asked me to watch the chicken on the grill. And so I did what he asked...I watched the chicken--watched it catch on fire and turn to charcoal. HA. Oops. I really don't think I'm to blame, he should've been more specific lol I never wanted to learn how to cook or had the patience for it...and really I was always busy with volleyball. But I guess even if I would've had the time I still wouldn't have cooked lol However, now that I have a family of my own I'm forced to cook (it's unfortunate we can't live off of cereal) Throughout the years I've got a lot better. DOMESTICATED. Ha. And now I actually sort of, kinda, maybe like to cook. It's growing on me and the cooking disasters are starting to decrease lol

Tonight I did manage to make some edible (thank God) and delicious breadsticks. Copy cat version of Olive Gardens.

Homemade bread always makes me nervous, I'm always scared it won't rise lol

THEY HAVE RISEN!
My cute little helper....

I also made for the first time the Zuppa Toscana soup.....so good and seriously tasted just like the one at the restaurant. And what good is Olive Garden recipes without the chicken Alfredo. Homemade sauce is soooo much better than the jar kind. I totally meant to take pics when it was finished but when you have a teething/screaming five month old and a three year old riding her scooter in the dining room screaming "MOM MAKE HER BE QUIET" over and over again, taking photos for your blog is sort of the last thing on your mind. Crazies & Chaos. My family at the dinner table, enjoying food, happy.....I guess I can understand why people like to cook :)

Motherhood

As moms I think sometimes we are a little too hard on ourselves. Are we doing the right things by our children? Are we showing enough grace, love, discipline? Are their lives fulfilled? Instead of beating ourselves up over whether or not we are being a good mother we should try more often to see ourselves through our children's eyes :)

This video is absolutely adorable....

A Californian Christmas

Nothing beats warm sunshine and Palm trees in the middle of the winter....Christmas 2014 was one to remember. Luckily, we were able to go to San Diego to spend the holidays with my family as well as got to visit some of Bruce's family that he has in Cali. In all the craziness and chaos I have really been blessed with some truly remarkable people in my life that I get the opportunity to call my family. We drove from Oregon to San Diego---straight through which took around 20 hours. Seriously probably my worst idea of 2014 lol. Christmas Eve was spent with my mom && she threw an amazing dinner party. If you know my mom then you know she likes to throw down in the kitchen.

Karaoke, ugly sweater contest, & even had Santa visit for Marley lol (spoiled). And in true Nana fashion she bought my girls WAY too many things.

I had to end up sending a giant box of things home because there was no way everything was fitting in the Tahoe. The next day we went to my dads, spent Christmas relaxing and eating the most yum turkey ever in between some serious napping. Legoland and a big family dinner to celebrate Christmas the day after.

All the years I've lived in California and it was the first time I've ever been to Legoland. I probably had just as much fun as the girls lol. May have also ditched Marley to ride on some rides she was too small for. See: Big kid at heart. lol Oops.

Legoland also had the cutest aquarium. ^Someone was happy to see the fish.

Marley would have sat in the water with the starfish if it was up to her. Also, notice the 20.00 face paint -_- The things we do to put a smile on our children's face right? Note to self: bring own face paint next time.

Uncle Shiloh and baby Reese meeting for the first time :) So happy to see him after being away in Germany in the Army for the past few years!

Goodbyes are always the hardest part of vacation....but we'll always cherish all the memories we had this Christmas and all the moments that will last a lifetime :) One word to describe our first Christmas as a family of four: Unforgettable.

Safety first:)

I just wanted to take some time to blog about children and car seat safety. So many people think that by just buckling a child into a seat automatically makes them safe. In reality there are many other factors that play a role into making sure your child is safe in vehicles.
am seriously such an advocate on car seat safety for children. I always catch myself watching YouTube videos on tutorials on the correct way to install the different type of seats with and without the latch system or looking up statistics on improperly installed seats and the consequences of that. So, to anyone reading this that isn't 100% positive that they are correctly installing a car seat it only takes a few minutes to YouTube correct car seat installation :)  always better safe than sorry, especially when it comes to our little blessings!

The link above is just a small informational article about one of the most common mistakes parents makes in regards to car sear safety.

Leaving me

Memory shmemory

I've literally walked out of my house to go somewhere without my shoes on, thankfully I do remember my pants. lol so it's not the least bit surprising that I forgot my password to my blog. 2,384 password attempts later and I finally realize that the very first password I tried was correct but I had been using the wrong username. Do you ever have one of those moments where you would totally punch yourself in the face if it was possible? I do, at least once a month.
